How it all started

Stratford Samaritans Community Hub was created when Stratford Samaritans and the Town Trust recognised the need for a place that would help local people of all ages and abilities to find emotional, social and practical support.

When the Samaritans were looking for more space they realised how difficult it was to find affordable property in the town centre. They soon realised that they were not alone so started looking for a home that could provide office and event space for other charities and community projects. They would be able to work independently and together, strengthening services for the most vulnerable people in our area.

Tyler House had been a community centre since the 1960s but the building was in drastic need of refurbishment. After winning a grant in the Town Trust’s Community Challenge in 2014, Stratford Samaritans secured the lease and, following major renovation, moved into the building in early 2016. It is now a thriving community hub, with lots of different groups using the light, airy space for an occasional hour, one day a week or as a permanent base.

The welfare and wellbeing of local people is already benefitting from the inspirational services available at Tyler House: Stratford Samaritans Community Hub.
